Alpha’s Senior Marketing Coordinator Marianne Stanton (third from the left) was MIA from the Dallas office on Thursday and Friday. Where was she? All the way on the East Coast in Atlanta, Georgia at an SMPS Roadmap to Certification class. The two day immersion course helps prepare members to take the CPSM exam. Participants came from all over the US, some as far as Bellevue, Washington and Portland, Oregon. Marianne was made famous on Youtube through an interview taken during the class. See the video here!
Our San Antonio CMT Manager Philip Johnson, PE put his lecturing skills to work on a Monday at the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) luncheon in February. Phil was one of the guest speakers at the lunch alongside the keynote speakers from the San Antonio River Authority, HDR, and Pape-Dawson. The lectures covered topics related to the San Pedro Creek project, a drainage relief and improvements project under design. Want to have an Alpha expert speak at your next luncheon or event? Alpha had some unexpected visitors in our Geotechnical Lab last week. Seven 5th Graders from Cabell Elementary School, joined by their teachers and parents, came to Alpha for the use of our compression testing machine. After dominating the local, state, and national competition, the group was preparing for their trip in May to the Destination Imagination Global Finals at the University of Tennessee to compete in the structural challenge.
Under the direction of Attef Abushakra, PE and Jared Pitchforth, the students compared the strength of two identical wooden structures (one made of balsa wood, the other of bass wood) to see which material would outdo the other. With safety goggles on, the students watched their creations bear over 1,000 lbs each… guess that’s why they have a spot at the Global Finals! In the end, balsa wood won withstanding 1,120 lbs. We wish Cabell Elementary School the best of luck at their competition!
We are very excited and proud to share of our #334 spot on the national ENR Top 500 Design Firms! We have come a long way since our incorporation in 1983 – adding 3 additional offices in Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Houston and growing to a 300+ person firm. But we couldn’t have gotten to #334 alone. Our outstanding Alpha team, leadership, and clients have made this growth possible and we look forward to the many years ahead!
