Let the Show Begin

Alpha Testing, Inc.Think that mortar & brick is the only kind of theater out there? Think again! Texas is home to 20 drive-ins, according to Texas Highways, including the new Coyote Drive-In in Fort Worth. Alpha Testing provided concrete testing at the Coyote Drive-In, and we know of one staffer that plans to visit as many of the others as he can, including the one in Palmer, TX (motorcycles are involved). Here are 8 more suggestions from the list, so grab your car, some popcorn, and a date and get the outdoor movie experience with these drive-ins across the state.

Driving Management Crazy!

Alpha Testing, Inc.First it was personal time on the phone, then it was personal time on the internet, and now it could be Pokemon Go that is driving managers ‘crazy’. The mobile game now has seniors, adults, and kids scouting the city to try to “catch ‘em all”. Pokemon seem to show up everywhere – parks, parking lots, stores, and… testing laboratories. Pokemon have been spotted at our San Antonio office and captured on camera – we just hope they don’t find the compression machines!

Golfing for a Cause

Alpha Testing, Inc.Three of our own hit the greens at the Bear Creek Golf Club for the 19th annual Texas811 Golf Tournament, benefitting The Turning Point. Alpha’s Junior Hernandez, Blain Lehman, and John Moreland along with Amanda Leggett with Enterprise, made up the four person team. While their score cards didn’t exactly compete with their opponents, spending the day with coworkers and friends on a manicured field, benefitting a great cause is winning in our book.

The Dirt on Dirt

Alpha Testing, IncAlpha’s Marketing intern, Nina Hernandez, has joined Alpha for the summer. A student at Ranger College, Nina will start her sophomore year this August. When class or work is not in session, Nina spends her time outside on softball fields, playing for either her select summer league Fire and Ice 18u or for the Ranger College softball team. Having played all positions (her favorite outfield), she knows the importance of having good dirt around those diamonds, “Good dirt is key in softball or baseball because without it, it’s hard to dive or slide without injuries.”

Softball and baseball teams look for consistent dirt every game, every season. ENR published an article about a partnership that embraced the need for field dirt consistency. Southern Athletic Fields partnered with Pugmill Systems to solve the dirt issue by creating specific clay and sand formulas for each client and modifying a standard pug mill machine to get the job done. The result? Same dirt every season!

While Alpha doesn’t create the visible dirt on the surface of softball and baseball fields, we do our part with the dirt underneath the surface and the building materials above – providing environmental services, geotechnical engineering, and construction materials testing. Alpha has served numerous ballparks for a variety of clients including Prairie View A&M University, Texas Christian University, Dallas Baptist University, Anna ISD, Lewisville ISD, Bland ISD, Kaufman ISD, and many more.

Avoca Coffee – Fort Worth, TX

As the Texas summer heat rolls in, it might be too hot for coffee outside, especially in Fort Worth, Texas. Coffee shops with room to sit and sip can be hard to come by, but Avoca Coffee has plenty of air conditioned seating inside to enjoy your hot brew and escape the heat. Avoca roasts their own beans and has two “dine-in” locations in Fort Worth. Their shop on Foch Street is just a couple blocks west of the 7th Street Trinity River Bridge, for which Alpha provided geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing. This summer, give Avoca a try and take the bridge on the way!
