At 55 feet tall, Big Tex is not just the cowboy who greets us every fall at the State Fair, but he is also an unforgettable Texas icon. In 2013, Big Tex got a Big makeover. He got a new steel frame, six motors, a new wardrobe, and a sturdy place to stand. Our cowboy looks sharp, but he has put on a few extra pounds… his hat alone weighs 900 pounds! In order to see that he stands tall, Big Tex is bolted into an 18” thick slab of concrete. Alpha Testing is proud to have provided the geotechnical engineering for the base and vault underneath, built to house the power supply and sound control system.
