Road Trip!

Looking to escape the Texas heat for a week, or just ready to plan next summer’s vacation? We recommend a road trip to Mount Rushmore National Memorial! Located in South Dakota’s magnificent Black Hills, Mount Rushmore is a definite must see, especially around the 4th of July.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the drive, we have some great places for your family to visit along the way!

First up, the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, KS where you can learn about the history of space travel, and even see Odyssey, the restored Apollo 13 Command Module. No kid (or adult) can resist imagining life in space or learning the history of rockets!

Next, head to Omaha, NE, where you can visit Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. Make sure to visit the zoo’s Desert Dome, which is the largest indoor desert in the world and includes animals and plants from southern Africa’s Namib Desert, the Red Center of Australia and the Sonoran Desert of the southwest United States. Don’t forget to pack those swimsuits, so you can cool off at the Alaskan Adventure splash grounds after a long day of exploring.

Once you make it to South Dakota, we suggest staying in Custer, SD, minutes from Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Badlands National Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, and much more! If you visit around Independence Day, you might even run into Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln.

If you venture up north, or anywhere else this summer, make sure to take your Alpha backpack and hat so we can see where your Alpha ‘A’ has been!

  1. Excellent report. I’m a student, and I had problems with renting a car (I’m less than 25 years old). But I promised to take my girl to the mountains! I was lucky that I was able to find this service – 14CARS. They provide services to young drivers and I still managed to spend the weekend as I planned

  2. Lovely post.
I would love to go around the US, but I’m broke.
